Q&A: All about my Skincare Routine |P&R: Todo sobre mi rutina de cuidado de piel

by

Hey guys, I hope you are safe and healthy with your family. We are currently in a difficult period, so this made me double think whether I should create content to share with you or not. I decided to ask you guys on Instagram what you thought about it, and many of you guys agreed on sharing content. I’m actually happy to do it, because just like you guys, I wanted a little distraction from all of this situation.

So… I took this opportunity to “imagine” I was hanging out with my friends talking about a topic I LOVE and enjoying some time together 🙂 Hope you guys enjoy this too, let’s go with the questions you guys made me on my IG stories questions about my skincare:

1- What’s the best face mask you recommend? My dermatologist recommended me to use strawberry due to its astringent and exfoliating properties. So I personally love to use strawberries with honey or natural yogurt. However, with anything that’s natural, you have to be extra careful to know you are not allergic. So before spreading the whole mask on your face, try it on a little piece of skin and see how it reacts for you.

2- What do you recommend to hydrate my skin? So I got this tip from another dermatologist, and it surprises me that a lot of people don’t know about this. The best way to moisturize your skin is to use your moisturizer on a wet face. This helps prevent water lost from your skin. So this is what I do:

  1. Wash my face with my regular cleanser
  2. Put on my moisturizer on my wet face ( I’m currently using the Hyaluronic Acid, Hydro boost water gel from Neutrogena, fragrance free)
  3. Let it air dry naturally
  4. Proceed with the rest of my skincare routine

3- Do you exfoliate your lips? Can you please recommend something natural, thank you! I think the easiest way in the world to exfoliate your lips is to use the old toothbrush trick. So this means brushing your lips with your wet toothbrush before brushing your teeth. I know it doesn’t sound like this best, but it’s super convenient when you want something fast and accessible. On another note, if you actually want a lip mask to exfoliate them, I love to use sugar and honey on my lips.

4- Are you letting your brows grow? You have beautiful brows Honestly no, is not that I’m letting my brows grow, is just that I love a natural look on me and I’ve always been the thick brows girl. I normally get them done in Miami with a girl called @Browaholics.

5- What to do you use for acne? I would recommend everyone to consult a specialist for this. We all have different conditions and needs. When it comes to acne, it is important to use the right products. I’ve always been a big supporter of natural products and to avoid using a 20 step skincare routine. However, when it comes to something as serious as acne, I trust the product my dermatologist recommended me. In my case, I use retinol. A small dosage and amount, on the affected areas of my skin.

6- What do you recommend for spots after acne? I don’t think we truly acknowledge the power of sunscreen. Honestly, using sunscreen daily can avoid so many skin problems. I’m currently using Bioderma 50 with color.

7-  What do you think about botox, do you recommend it? I have never used botox before. But it’s not something I’m against. Obviously, I’m drawn into embracing your natural beauty. So if it makes you feel good and look good, I’m happy for it! For sure, I will recommend for you to be responsible and do it very lightly, but honestly whatever makes you feel awesome! And when the time comes, I’m sure I’m going to do it too.

8- What do you use to avoid getting an oily face after makeup? When I used to work every day in the studio and between shoots, I noticed that my skin suffered a lot from pounds and pounds of makeup every single day and even retouching multiple times a day. So I noticed my skin created so much oil when it was covered with 1000 different products and heavy makeup. On the other hand, if I do my own makeup using only a few light products, I don’t create as much oil. So I would recommend you check your routine before makeup, avoid using heavy products and try a lighter makeup routine.

9- If you get a pimple, do you usually take it out with your hands, or let it come out naturally? I’m going to be raw honest here, because I feel like I’m truly talking with my friends. So, I would love to tell you I always let it come out naturally, but it’s not true. Depends on the day, what I’m doing and my mood. Lol. So If I’m in a rush for an event and it really bothers me, and I cannot handle seeing it, I take it out. If I’m in the house, relaxing, I let it come out naturally and just put the cream on it. However,
I would recommend you not to touch it, because you add more bacteria to an infected area. So DONT do it!

10- Hi, what do you think about creams based on aloe? Are they good? So aloe can be very irritating to some people. To me, it is. One time I received a skincare package full of products based on aloe and after 1 min of trying them, I had a reaction. So be careful and try them to see if it works for you.

11- Con todas las lavadas de mano que estamos haciendo ahora, como cuidas tus manos? My hands have definitely been affected with all the alcohol and hand-washing these days. I’m using a regular Cetaphil cream.

12- Do you truly believe that Neutrogena products are good for your skin? Neutrogena was one of the first brands that I used as a teen. I have never had a problem with the line. I think sometimes we find ourselves comparing prices. If it’s super expensive it’s good, and if you can find it in a pharmacy, maybe, not so much. I’m honestly not about that at all. I have a few expensive products, and I have pharmacy products. The idea is to find the best products that work for you. One of my favorite skin products is the Hydro Boost gel from Neutrogena. I love that Hyaluronic Acid.

13- I tried the handmade natural face masks you made, I love them all! Awww! This warms my heart, thank you! It makes me happy to hear that!  🙂

14- How do you take care of your eyelashes? I realized that the way you take off your eye makeup is crucial for your eyelashes. So I found that using natural oils makes it easier to do so and it helps my lashes grow longer and stronger naturally. So I’m currently using almond oil, but you can use castor oil.

15- What’s your skin type? Combination skin, I have oily skin in some areas of my face and dry skin in other areas. Typically, there’s a mix of oily and dry areas on different parts of my face, with the t-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) being slightly oily.

16- You’re beautiful, how do you do your makeup to look so natural? After a very bad food allergy I had last year, I had to change my daily routine around. One of the things I changed was to not use makeup everyday. So I let my skin breath. Instead, I used sunscreen with tint, which gives my skin a glow of color looking supernatural.

17- What do you recommend for oily skin? I would recommend you consult a specialist about what type of products you should use for your specific skin type. But with oily skin, I would pay attention to what products you’re using. Oil free products and light moisturizers that don’t  clog your pores, are a good idea.

18-  What’s something you always need in your routine? I would say sunscreen 100%.

19- What products do you consume for your skin? I always try to keep a healthy and balanced diet. I basically eat everything. Except when I got my skin allergy last year, where I had to stop consuming eggs, gluten and sugars. But other than that, I think balanced is key.

20- Is it good to clean your skin every day or we need to let it rest? If there’s something we need to do with our skin every day is cleanse it. Even if we didn’t leave the house, or we didn’t put any product on it. Our skin produces oils and impurities every single day. So just a regular and gentle cleanse is perfect!

21- What do you recommend to moisturize my skin? I’m 21 years old. I recommend you not to use a 20 step skincare routine, you are very young and don’t need that right now, plus it is more affordable and accessible. I recommend a regular moisturizer, depending on your skin type, I like the Hydro boost Gel cream from Neutrogena.

22- It’s me again, what homemade face mask would you recommend? Greetings from Guadalajara, Mexico. I love Mexico, thank you for writing! So, as I said before, I love to use strawberry, with either honey, natural yogurt, or just the fruit by itself.
